CASE STUDY 4:

Small Housing Development, Fareham, Hampshire

Project Description:

The original land use was unknown and comprised waste ground between 2 housing estates. The ground levels were prepared and graded to level by the incumbent ground works contractor and Envirosoil treated and compacted all of the material in situ.

Existing Ground Conditions:

Generally speaking the the site was overlain with a silty, sandy clay.

Product 1:

Enviro-Mat utilised the existing ground and a cement binder to prepare a piling mat for which an FSP certificate was issued. Plate bearing tests were employed to establish the bearing capacity of the piling mats. All results were well above compliance levels.

Product 2:

A higher dose of cement binder achieved the requirements for non-frost susceptibility and CBRs of 30% and above, with most results measuring in excess of 40% CBR.

Benefits Accrued as a direct result of the incorporation of Envirosoil Products in the Works:
  • Reduction in lorry movements disposing and importing materials, which was critical in this residential built up area with an abundance of restricted routes and traffic calming.

  • Lack of need to excavate into the ground to make void for imported stone as all soil treated in-situ. This reduced congestion of the site which was surrounded by occupied dwellings and consisted merely of 2 No. 3-storey blocks of flats.

  • Elimination of the dig and dump of inert material.

  • Estimated Cost Savings in the region of £30 per cubic m on average., which equates to a 70% saving on cost.

  • Assured quality as a result of Envirosoil’s strict and independent testing regime.

  • Reduction in risks to Health and Safety of General Public particularly as a result of the elimination of unnecessary delivery traffic passing through a large busy residential development.
